Sourcing Local Seafood

Are you sourcing local seafood for the first time? Our Sea to School Guide provides a lot of information about the questions to consider when selecting a seafood vendor and the type of seafood you will buy. These include questions such as:https://massfarmtoschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/SeaToSchoolGuide.pdf

  • What local species do you want to purchase?
  • Do you want fresh or frozen product?
  • Do you want to source from a vendor that provides traceability back to the boat or a group of boats?
  • Do you want your seafood to cary certain eco-labels or other certifications?

There are many seafood vendors in Massachusetts who carry locally caught fish and have expressed an interest in selling to schools or are already doing so. Many specialize in underutilized species such as dogfish, pollock, and redfish. Click here for a chart showing the seasonal availability of Massachusetts seafood.

Below is an alphabetical list of some of these vendors. This list is not exhaustive, so if you know of another vendor, that’s great! Please tell us about them so we can continue updating this resource.
