We were thrilled to kick off Farm to School Month one day early with a wonderful visit to Czajkowski Farm in Hadley to showcase the strong partnership between the farm and the Boston Public Schools. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Congressman Jim McGovern, State Senator Jo Comerford, State Representative Daniel Carey, Boston Public Schools’ Director of Food and Nutrition Services Anneliese Tanner and Dept. of Agricultural Resources’ Winton Pitcoff highlighted the city’s commitment to investing in our local food system and ensuring students have access to delicious and nourishing foods. Czajkowski Farm grows black beans, butternut squash, zucchini, grape tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and turnips that are served to students in BPS schools. Every year, the City buys 19,000 lbs of butternut squash for BPS schools from Czajkowski Farm!
Check out WWLP’s coverage of the visit.
This month we seek to showcase more of these incredible farm to school partnerships with legislators who can support the policies and programs that will grow the farm to school movement. If you are interested in hosting a legislator visit, please get in touch!
