Activity: Beans on Toast Game

In the movement game “Beans on Toast,” a leader directs players by calling out different types of beans, each associated with a specific action.

How to Play

The leader calls out various beans such as “string bean,” “kidney bean,” “green bean,” etc., with each bean having a corresponding action. The action can be modified to meet the needs of your student group and you can ask students to make up the movements.

Examples:

  • String Bean: Stretch your arms up high.
  • Broad Bean: Make yourself wide.
  • Kidney Bean: Jump in place twice.
  • Runner Bean: Run in place.
  • Green Bean: Spin around once.
  • Chili Bean: Shiver like you are cold.

When the leader shouts “Beans on Toast,” everyone must quickly drop to the ground.

The player who fails to perform the correct action or drops to the ground last is typically out of the game and becomes the new leader. They can then add new beans and actions to keep the game entertaining. As the game progresses, the leader can increase the speed of calling out beans or mix up the order to increase the challenge and excitement for the players.
